The New Orleans Pelicans are already without one of their big men after DeMarcus Cousins went down with a season-ending injury a few weeks ago. Against the Los Angeles Lakers Wednesday night, Anthony Davis suffered what appears to be a right groin injury.

According to Will Guillory of the Times-Picayune via CBS Sports, Davis “is questionable to return.”

“Davis got tangled up with Julius Randle of the Lakers, appearing to take a hard fall. He eventually limped to the locker room under his own power and is likely undergoing additional testing to see if there's anything more significant at hand. Another update on Davis' availability should be provided shortly.”

A recent update by the Pelicans’ official Twitter account says that Davis has been cleared to play and he returned to the game in a big way, producing huge numbers for New Orleans.

The Pelicans’ center is scheduled to play in the 2018 NBA All-Star Game under Team LeBron but with this latest development, there’s a possibility that Davis might hold out playing on Sunday to recuperate even after he was cleared to play against the Lakers again.

Team LeBron has been decimated by injuries to many of its players. Cousins, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Kevin Love, the New York Knicks’ Kristaps Porzingis, and the Washington Wizards’ John Wall have already been replaced after suffering injuries since being selected to play in the Sunday event.

Davis is playing as good as he ever has in previous seasons. His nightly averages of 27.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.3 steals, and 2.1 blocks per game are MVP-worthy numbers. But the Pelicans are in the eighth spot in the Western Conference and the media rarely votes for players whose teams are not in the top seeds.

Hopefully, Davis returns to the Pelicans soon to help them secure a playoff spot.
