The Los Angeles Lakers made what they thought was a Godfather offer to the New Orleans Pelicans for Anthony Davis on Tuesday, offering up their entire young core plus draft picks in exchange for the superstar.

But the Pelicans weren't biting, as they rebuffed the Lakers, causing Los Angeles to pull out of trade talks with the Thursday deadline approaching.

When Bleacher Report made a post about the Lakers' final offer for Davis on social media, Davis gave it his approval:

The problem for Davis is that, much like Kawhi Leonard last year, his team does not seem at all intent on sending him to the Lakers.

There are a few things going on here.

First of all, the Pelicans are obviously not enamored with the Lakers' young talent. Kyle Kuzma is definitely the best out of that assortment, but Brandon Ingram has been very inconsistent over his first three years, and Lonzo Ball hasn't even shown he can stay on the floor.

Second, New Orleans would probably prefer to send Davis to an Eastern Conference team, just like the San Antonio Spurs did with Leonard this past summer.

Finally, the Pelicans have Davis under team control through the end of next season, so they absolutely do not have to trade him by Thursday. In fact, New Orleans would be better served to wait, as it can possibly get a better offer from the Boston Celtics this summer.

The Celtics cannot deal for Davis before the deadline due to the ā€œRose ruleā€ concerning Kyrie Irving, but they can acquire him this offseason and seem to be willing to include Jayson Tatum in a potential deal.
