JJ Redick could have chosen to join just about any team this offseason, but he ultimately decided to join the New Orleans Pelicans. Why? Because he feels that the team has a shot at making a playoff run in the coming season.
Redick noted his confidence in a recent interview with Scott Kushner of The Times Picayune in New Orleans:
Redick said he wouldn’t have come to New Orleans if he didn’t think they could make the playoffs this season.

The Pelicans will look a bit different this season, as Anthony Davis has taken his talents to Hollywood. That doesn't mean they won't be competitive, however — especially when considering the fact that rookie sensation Zion Williamson is primed for his breakout season.
Article Continues BelowRedick will likely play a big role in any success that New Orleans has in the 2019-20 campaign, as he is one of the greatest shooters in NBA history. In fact, the 35-year-old is currently ranked 21st on the league's all-time 3-pointers made list (1,704) and 18th in percentage (41.2).
Redick made 76 appearances with the Sixers last season (63 starts), racking up averages of 18.1 points on 44.0 percent shooting fro the field (39.7 percent from beyond the arc), 2.7 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 31.3 minutes per outing.
The Pelicans finished the 2018-19 campaign with a 33-49 overall record, which left the team out of playoff contention. Hopefully, though, with the acquisitions of Redick and others, New Orleans will find their way back into the postseason hunt.
