The New Orleans Pelicans have reportedly been granted permission to discuss a senior front-office role with Los Angeles Clippers assistant general manager Trent Redden, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

David Griffin, the Pelicans' new executive vice president of basketball operations, worked with Redden on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

At his introductory news conference Wednesday, Griffin said his plan would be to prioritize the hiring of talented executives over filling specific roles and titles.

The Pelicans finished 2018-19 with a record of 33-49. New Orleans missed the playoffs amid the Anthony Davis trade saga.

Griffin was the architect of the Cavs' 2016 championship team which defeated the Golden State Warriors in seven games. Griffin told local reporters this week he has spoken with Davis' agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports. Davis, of course, has requested a trade from the Pelicans.

Griffin is trying to assemble a smart brain trust around him in New Orleans.

The franchise has a lot of work to do before it can compete in the postseason again.
