Three years ago, the New Orleans Pelicans finished the regular season without a chance at the postseason tournament. To make the brutal season worse, star Anthony Davis requested a trade and was on his way out the door.
After the team's final game in 2019, Davis wore a shirt that read ‘That's All Folks!' referencing the Looney Tunes cartoon. Although he said it wasn't intentional, the Pelicans couldn't help but think the wardrobe choice was a reference to his leaving New Orleans.
Now, three years later, the tables have turned. New Orleans secured their spot in the play-in tournament with their Tuesday night win over the Sacramento Kings. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers and AD were knocked out of playoff contention with their Tuesday night loss to the Phoenix Suns.
(Not to mention, the Pelicans went 3-0 this season against Los Angeles.)
The Pelicans have proven themselves to hold a grudge. They referenced Davis' exit outfit in their tweet announcing the clinched playoff berth.

The Athletic's Jay King noticed the parallel immediately, tweeting a side-by-side of Davis' shirt from 2019 and the Pelicans' hilarious tweet.

The Lakers season is over, but the Pelicans are set to take on the San Antonio Spurs in the play-in tournament. The winner of this matchup will take on the loser of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Clippers.
And, there's a possibility that Zion Williamson makes his season debut for New Orleans. His presence would be a huge boost for the Pelicans with such a long postseason journey ahead.
