New Orleans Pelicans starting center Steven Adams just took a nasty fall in the opening quarter of their game against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Adams landed awkwardly and seemed to have sprained his right ankle. Fortunately, the 27-year-old was able to walk off the court in his own power and limped all the way to the locker room.

It was a non-contact injury and Steven Adams was clearly upset. He even threw a chair on his way to the dugout. He was then listed as questionable to return, but Pelicans fans are certainly hoping it's nothing serious.

Adams, who's playing his first year with the Pelicans, has been a key member of head coach Stan Van Gundy's starting unit. He's been able to complement the young core of Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram and add some strength in New Orleans' frontcourt. So far, Adams' debut stint for the team has been steady.

The New Zealand native has been quite the durable athlete in his time in the NBA. He's had a few minor injuries in his eight seasons in the league so far,Ā  but he has been able to come back stronger every single time. Adams is one of the toughest characters in today's NBA, and surely, he should come out of the injury rather unscathed.

New Orleans would have to wait and see how quickly though Adams can return to the court. Without him, they're missing 9.1 boards on a nightly basis, which could be huge for the Pelicans as they continue to fight for a playoff spot midway through the season.
