Coming off a win in their last game, the Pelicans faced the streaking Bucks with momentum on their side. Head coach Stan Van Gundy and his team started out strong with a 35-point performance in the first quarter and eventually gained a comfortable lead of 68-45 by the end of the first half.

However, the Bucks managed to come out stronger in the third quarter and attempted to mount their own comeback. Despite being able to cut the Pelicans' lead, Giannis Antetokounmpo and his squad eventually ran out of time in the final frame, ultimately succumbing to a 131-126 defeat.
The two-time NBA MVP led his team with 38 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists while Jrue Holiday contributed 22 points and nine rebounds for the Bucks. On the opposite end of the floor, Williamson bannered the Pelicans' attack with an all-around performance of 21 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. Meanwhile, Brandon Ingram topped the team in scoring with 28 points while Lonzo Ball added 27 points of his own.
With the win, the Pelicans now improve to a 7-10 record to nab the 14th spot in the Western Conference. Another big game is expected from Zion Williamson on Jan. 30 when the Pelicans host a Houston Rockets squad that is entering the matchup with a four-game winning streak.
