New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson says nothing has surprised him about his rookie season in the NBA.

Williamson says his mom did a really good job of preparing him for the NBA and stardom, via Andrew Lopez of ESPN:

In an interview with ESPN's Eric Woodyard on Monday, Williamson said nothing has surprised him so far about his rookie season in part because of his support system.

“Nothing's really caught me off guard because my parents, especially my mom, she really prepared me for life in this world and how things are handled,” Williamson said.

Williamson has been putting up historically great numbers through his first 15 NBA games. The No. 1 overall pick in last summer’s NBA draft averaged 25.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists in February, winning the Rookie of the Month Award for Western Conference rookies.

Williamson is averaging 24.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists overall on the season while shooting 59.3 percent from the floor, 41.7 percent from the 3-point line and 64.8 percent from the charity stripe.

It would be a great story if Zion is able to lead the Pelicans to the postseason after missing the beginning of the season due to his knee surgery. New Orleans is 26-34 on the season and 3.5 games back of the Memphis Grizzlies for the eighth spot.

Williamson’s powerful dunks are already breaking backboards and he is flying through the air just like Michael Jordan did with the Chicago Bulls. The fact that Williamson is signed with Jordan Brand and wearing Jordan’s while dunking just feels right.
