New Orleans Pelicans big man Zion Williamson got off to a slow start in his NBA career as a rookie last season, even though such a hindrance was caused mainly by some lingering injury trouble. Once Williamson did ultimately make his way on the court for the team late in the 2019-20 campaign, the former No. 1 overall pick showed exactly why New Orleans selected him.

Now, Williamson is promising that the NBA will be encountering the Zion of old in 2020-21.

“I think it will definitely be different,” Zion Williamson told Pelicans reporters on Sunday, via Christian Clark of NOLA.com. “You know, it’s tough, man. When you’re going through rehab and you’re finally able to step on the court, three minutes goes by, four minutes goes by and AHHHHHH. You get subbed out. It was a lot. I tried to make the most of the situation. I think I did the best that I possibly could. But it’s going to be a lot different. From what I know now, there are no restrictions. None.”

After making waves as a high school standout, Williamson played one season of collegiate basketball at the prestigious Duke University under the leadership of famed head coach Mike Krzyzewski. While only boosting his NBA Draft stock with his repeatedly impressive performances as a member of the Blue Devils, it was absolutely no surprise that Williamson came off the board at No. 1 overall to the Pelicans back in 2019.

Now, Zion is determined to show fans what got everyone excited when he entered the NBA.

“Show that I’m a basketball player,” Williamson shared of his goal for the 2020-21 season. “I do whatever the team needs to do on offense or defense, whatever it is to win. And I’m a competitor. When I’m healthy and competing, I’m just a different type of player. That’s the type of player everyone fell in love with.”

With Williamson and a slew of other talented young players on board for the upcoming campaign, the Pelicans may very well be able to make some noise toward the bottom of the Western Conference playoff picture in the upcoming season.
