On Sunday, the New York Knicks hosted the Memphis Grizzlies in Madison Square Garden. Grizzlies veteran big man Joakim Noah made an appearance and was treated to a host of boos from the home supporters.
Following his team's 96-84 victory, Noah could not help but reflect on his time with the Knicks, admitting that he could have done much more for the organization.
“I reflect on that time, and I feel like we underachieved,” Noah said, via Jonathan Lehman of the New York Post. “And I don’t want to go back into the past, but I look back at things that I could have done better and I take some blame. I take some blame. I didn’t perform to what I was capable of, even though I had a lot of injuries, I had a lot going on outside the court. It’s disappointing. It’s definitely something I have to live with.”
The 33-year-old apparently wants to make it abundantly clear that he is not completely to blame for the two disastrous seasons he had with the Knicks, which finally came to a conclusion last October following a buyout agreement.
In fact, he is claiming that he is only accountable for a small part of what is characterized as one of the worst signings in the organization's history.
Article Continues BelowNoah, however, did take responsibility for his actions while in New York. He admits that he made some mistakes, and that he regrets doing the same.
“I take ownership in what I did, what I could have done better,” he added. “And I know that there was 10 things that went wrong that year.”
Well, that's as much as a half-hearted apology/admittance as we're ever going to hear. Noah apparently feels that the team are also to blame for his highly unsuccessful stint.
Knicks fans are definitely not going to like this, and we can probably tell the type of reception Noah will be getting the next time he makes an appearance in MSG.
