According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, sources say that the New York Knicks are close to an agreement that would waive Joakim Noah before media day on Monday.

Noah will not report to training camp this week in anticipation of the move being finalized. Noah's time with the Knicks will come to a brief end after an underwhelming second season with the franchise. He averaged 1.7 points and 2 rebounds while only appearing in 7 games for the team last year.

Joakim Noah  just didn't mesh very well with team. He was signed with the hopes that his defensive prowess would give the Knicks for protection and intensity under the basket. However, the two-time All-Star and former Defensive Player of the Year struggled. He was suspended for his violation of the NBA's anti-drug policy and has dealt with a string of injuries in recent years. Noah has appeared in just 82 games in the last three seasons.

While his saga in New York is over, Noah will continue to explore is options in the NBA. He has been dedicating the offseason to his health in an attempt to come back strong. Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau coached Noah during his prime with the Chicago Bulls. For now, they still have Jimmy Butler and Derrick Rose, two players he has worked well with in the past. However, Thibodeau says he has no active plans to pursue Noah.

Nevertheless, teams will surely reach out to evaluate him and see if he still has some good days of basketball ahead of him.
