The New York Knicks will soon be receiving reinforcements. Newsday's Steve Popper reports that rookie Allonzo Trier is expected to suit up for the team on Christmas Day when they face the Milwaukee Bucks at Madison Square Garden:

The shooting guard out of the University of Arizona has been rehabbing a strained hamstring, which has kept him from playing during the Knicks' last four losses.

Trier went undrafted in this past draft, and the Knicks pounced to sign him to a two-way contract. The move has been one of the organization's best this season, and he recently got an upgraded NBA contract. Trier has become one of the Knicks' best young players, averaging 11.3 points and 3.1 rebounds while shooting 47 percent from the floor.

The Seattle native brings some isolation scoring to a Knicks team that badly needs it. Paired with a resurgent Emmanuel Mudiay or Tim Hardaway Jr., the Knicks' backcourt can actually be an offensive threat.

Trier is part of the Knicks' youth movement that aims to improve even while the team struggles. Rookies Kevin Knox, Mitchell Robinson, and Damyean Dotson have all shown promise, and sophomore Frank Ntilikina is continuing to develop.

The Knicks might not be close to contention just yet, but the promising young core could be effective in just a few years time. When Kristaps Porzingis gets healthy, the team might be surprisingly good by the start of next season.

Hopefully, Allonzo Trier can continue to be a big part of the resurgence.
