The New York Knicks are beginning to assemble their list of potential head coaches. On that list is current San Antonio Spurs assistant Becky Hammon.

Ian Begley of SNY reported the Eastern Conference club's options, noting a source said Hammon was “a name to keep an eye on.”

The Knicks began reaching out to potential candidates in recent days, per sources. New York had already planned to interview interim head coach Mike Miller, former Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson, former Bulls and Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau and former Knicks coach Mike Woodson.

It's unclear who else New York will interview. Jason Kidd and Mark Jackson both have fans in the organization. There is some support in the organization for Kidd to be among those who get an interview for the opening, per sources. Spurs assistant Becky Hammon was described by a source as a name to keep an eye on, as Newsday first reported.

Begley also reported the Knicks have interest in interviewing former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach and current Golden State Warriors assistant Mike Brown.

The Knicks seemed to make clear Thibodeau would be the front-runner at season's end. However, they appear to be keeping all options open.

Hammon—if she were chosen—would be the first female head coach in any North American sports league.

The former WNBA star was hired by the Spurs back in 2014, becoming the first female full-time assistant in NBA history. She has since ascended the coaching ranks to become Gregg Popovich's most-experienced assistant.

It remains to be seen whether Hammon will be a serious candidate for the Knicks job. Nonetheless, she appears to be garnering some interest.
