The New York Knicks are currently ranked 10th in the Eastern Conference. Now that the season is starting to get intense and postseason positioning is changing weekly, the Knicks now have a sense of urgency to make the postseason.
Still, the Knicks are in a peculiar position. While they do have the talent to make the postseason, their performances have been inconsistent lately. To secure a postseason spot and thrive in the playoffs, the Knicks need to be active at the trade deadline. According to Stefan Bondy of the NY Daily News, Kristaps Porzingis wants the Knicks to become ‘buyers' at the deadline.

“Playoff experience for myself, individually, would be huge at this point in my career — the sooner the better,” he said. “And for most of the guys. Most of the guys haven't felt that playoff experience that everybody talks about — that the guys talk about that have been there. I think they know I want to be in the playoffs and that's the only thing on my mind,” said Porzingis, who is eligible for a $150 million contract extension this upcoming summer. “I'm not going to go in there and be like, ‘No, we're tanking.' Then there's no reason to play. That's the only thing I'm focused on. What I need to do on the court to play better, make my team win.”
With time running out, the Knicks' only option to make a playoff push may be to pick up assets at the trade deadline. However, this may mean that some Knicks players may have to go. Hopefully, the Knicks can become active at the trade deadline and build a team that is capable of postseason success.
