Robinson has more than held his own on the lowly New York Knicks (13-54) in his first NBA campaign.
The 7-foot-1 big man saw 33 minutes of action on Sunday, and he has clearly moved into position to become a pivotal member of the Knicks’ franchise for the future. He has already become one of the league’s most intimidating rim protectors with 2.4 blocks per game:
“His potential is crazy,” Emmanuel Mudiay said, per The New York Times. “He’s probably the best shot-blocker I ever played with in my life. In my opinion, he’s the best shot-blocker in the league.”
The Knicks selected Robinson with the No. 36 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft out of Chalmette High School in Louisiana.

“The kid is making history right now,” Fizdale said of Robinson. “He’s putting himself in groups with historic names. Every single day he continues to grow and get better.”
Robinson spent the first chapter of his career battling for opportunities with frontcourt members Enes Kanter, Noah Vonleh, and Luke Kornet earlier this season.
Robinson has now solidified himself as a key piece to New York’s young core, which includes Dennis Smith Jr. and Kevin Knox, among others.
In addition to his blocks, Mitchell Robinson is averaging 6.8 points and 5.5 rebounds on 69.5 percent shooting in his rookie year.
