New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson has been ruled out for Wednesday night's season opener against the San Antonio Spurs, according to an official report from the team.

In the same report, the Knicks noted that Taj Gibson would be available:

Robinson, now 21 years of age and entering his second year of service with the Knicks, rolled his ankle while going for a rebound during Monday's practice session.

With Robinson ruled out for Wednesday's season opener, Bobby Portis and Julius Randle will likely see upticks in their usage rates. Marcus Morris and Kevin Knox could also see additional playing time.

Robinson made 66 appearances with the Knicks last season (19 starts), racking up averages of 7.3 points on 69.4 percent shooting from the field, 6.4 rebounds, 2.4 blocks and just under one steal (0.8) in 20.6 minutes per outing.

This is obviously a tough break for the Knicks, but the injury doesn't seem to be all that severe. Some reports have indicated that he might be able to play in Friday night's game against the Brooklyn Nets, but New York will take a cautious approach to his return.

Wednesday night's Knicks-Spurs game is scheduled to tip inside the AT&T Center at 8:30 p.m. ET. Last season, New York finished with the worst mark in the league. Without a doubt, they'll be looking for improvement.
