The New York Knicks will be without center Mitchell Robinson for Friday's game against the Dallas Mavericks, after the 7-foot-1 second-year big man was ruled out with a concussion, according to the team.

Robinson went to the locker room and did not return after an apparent injury after the replay showed he took an elbow to the head in the first quarter of a 20-point loss against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday but did not depart until the second quarter.

The 21-year-old was plugged back into the starting lineup as head coach David Fizdale hoped to limit Andre Drummond's impact on the offensive glass, giving him a taller opponent to battle against. The strategy worked partly, as Drummond stopped his four-game streak of 20-rebound games, but hurt the Knicks in every other way, putting up a game-high 27 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and dished out seven assists in a convincing 122-102 win on Wednesday.

Robinson played only eight minutes while posting six points, four rebounds, and an assist during his short stint on the court.

It's likely Fizdale will go back to the double-power-forward tandem of Julius Randle and Marcus Morris, who played as the starting small forward on Wednesday and produced 18 points, four rebounds, and three steals in 33 minutes of play.

The options are getting slimmer for Fizdale and the Knicks, but Robinson's injury likely means increased playing time for Bobby Portis (three points in 21 minutes) and Taj Gibson, who logged 22 minutes after two straight DNP-coach's decision in the last two games.
