With training camp under way, the New York Knicks are exploring their options and putting their players in different situations so that they can determine what the final roster will be.

The Knicks have 18 players in camp, which means three of them will be cut to get to the maximum of 15 players a team is allowed to have on the roster to start the season.

Head coach Jeff Hornacek expressed that the team is not afraid to eat contracts in order to keep the better players in-house.

“We have a lot of guys under contract and fighting for a place,’’ Hornacek told Marc Berman of the New York Post. “Nobody’s guaranteed. The Knicks organization, they’re not afraid to cut a guy with a guaranteed contract if there’s another player who’s better.’’

Realistically speaking, players like Wichita State's Ron Baker, forward Lou Amundson, center Marshall Plumlee, and forward Maurice Ndour are the ones who are on the bubble.

Highly touted prospect Mindaugas Kuzminskas could be loaned out to a team in Europe, which will allow the Knicks to keep his rights and free up a roster spot.

The cuts will likely be predicated not only on potential and individual skill, but also in terms of fitting into the triangle offense — meaning shooters and multi-positional players will be heavily favored.
