The New York Knicks are staying active in the offseason. According to a report from Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated, the Knicks and Pelicans big man Julius Randle are believed to have āmutual interest.ā
Spears notes that the Knicks have interest in several big men, including Golden State Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins. However, he also reported the mutual interest between Randle and the Knicks:
Other free agents on the Knicksā radar include their own free agent center DeAndre Jordan, Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins and twins Markieff and Marcus Morris. New Orleans Pelicans forward Julius Randle and the Knicks also have mutual interest, according to sources.
Knicks president Steve Mills wouldn't provide any names in particular, but he said the team is planning to meet with a few players:
āWe are going to have the opportunity to meet with the guys we want to meet with,ā Mills told Spears, without offering details or confirming names.
Randle, now 24 years of age, would be a fine addition to any NBA team. The former No. 7 overall pick made 73 appearances with the Pelicans last season (49 starts), racking up averages of 21.4 points on 52.4 percent shooting frm the field (34.4 percent from beyond the arc), 8.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 30.6 minutes per outing.
The Knicks finished the 2018-19 regular season with a disappointing 17-65 overall record, which left the team well out of playoff contention. Now, though, with the addition of Duke standout RJ Barrett in this year's draft and a boatload of cap space, the team will be looking to get back into the hunt.
