The New York Knicks had the fourth-worst record in the Eastern Conference this season. As a result, they were projected to land one of the top picks in the 2020 draft.

However, they dropped to the eighth pick in the 2020 Draft lottery, as the Leon Rose-Tom Thibodeau era got off to a bad start. While the Knicks may still be able to grab a talented player at No. 8, fans of the team were hoping for a top-three pick.

Unless the Knicks trade up in the draft, they'll be picking after the Detroit Pistons. It's very early, but according to Ian Begley of SNY TV, Florida State guard Devin Vassell has some fans at Madison Square Garden.

Several guards, including Tyrese Haliburton, Cole Anthony, Killian Hayes, RJ Hampton, Kira Lewis Jr. and Tyrese Maxey could be available at eight. The Knicks scouted Anthony extensively during the college season and have interviewed Hayes via Zoom call.

If New York decides to take the best player available at eight, regardless of position, players like Auburn’s Isaac Okoro, Florida State’s Devin Vassell and Patrick Williams could be there. Dayton’s Obi Toppin is unlikely to be on the board at eight.

Vassell, it’s worth noting, has some fans at Madison Square Garden, sources say.

Vassell appeared in 30 games for Florida State in 2019-20. He averaged 12.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 28.8 minutes per night while shooting 49.0 percent from the field, 41.5 percent from beyond the arc and 73.8 percent from the free-throw line.

Knicks fans are praying Rose and Thibodeau can turn the franchise into a winner again. New York hasn't had a winning record or made the playoffs since the 2012-13 season.
