It has become a never-ending saga for Carmelo Anthony regarding his long-term future with the New York Knicks.

There have been many twists and turns along the way in the process, with the Knicks remaining fixated moving the All-Star forward. According to Ian Begley of ESPN, New York is still holding out hope that they can trade Anthony this offseason.

If the Knicks are looking to open up cap space to offer more money to free agents, they could open up cap space by trading Courtney Lee or Kyle O'Quinn. Of course, they could also open up cap space by trading Carmelo Anthony. Members of the Knicks organization have told people around the league that, at this point, they remain hopeful that they can trade Anthony. The Knicks and Rockets touched base last month on an Anthony deal but the Knicks were not interested in Ryan Anderson, per league sources.

Although Anthony possesses a no-trade clause, he would likely welcome deals that would send him to the Houston Rockets or Cleveland Cavaliers. However, that would first require the Knicks to agree upon the assets acquired in any offer before it can be presented to the 33-year-old.

The Rockets had entered the picture after the team acquired Chris Paul last week, pairing him alongside fellow All-Star guard James Harden. It is also no secret that both Paul and Anthony have become close friends over their careers. The joining of forces had become a topic of conversation last season with the Los Angeles Clippers being in talks to acquire the Anthony prior to the trade deadline.

Meanwhile, the same could be said about the Cavaliers, as he shares a similar bond with LeBron James. Cleveland had been rumored last season to be in heavy pursuit of the 10-time All-Star and that has continued this summer. There were also reports last week that Anthony would join James if he secured a buyout from his contract that has two years remaining.

All of this gives off the notion that Anthony could finally be on the move at some point this offseason.
