It's been more than a month since forward Kristaps Porzingis was traded to the Dallas Mavericks after his stint with the New York Knicks. While the 7-foot-3 unicorn isn't expected to play this season, it didn't keep the Latvian from throwing shade in the way of his old team, telling New Yorkers to ā€œstay wokeā€ after spending nearly four seasons with the franchise.

Even after being a while removed from being part of The Big Apple, Porzingis isn't quite ready to comment on what went on before his departure, but he hinted at potentially doing so during the offseason.

ā€œI had a very good experience in the city, but I still find it difficult to talk about the Knicks,ā€ Porzingis said in an interview withĀ NBA Spain. ā€œEverything happened a short time ago. In the summer, when things settle down, I’ll talk more extensively about that.ā€

Knowing the nature of his volatile tweet after being traded by the team (which was preceded by an obvious PR stunt to establish his unhappiness with the franchise and unwillingness to re-sign), it's sure to be a bombshell.

When asked about his impending return to the court, the young forward was much more forthcoming.

ā€œI feel perfect. I really want to go come back, but I also have to be patient and wait for the right moment,ā€ said Porzingis. ā€œI still don’t have answers from the coach if I’m going to return this season. I talk about many topics with him, not only about my return to the court. I continue with the recovery work. I am very happy with the physical improvement. The other day I was looking at some pictures on my phone, checking how many hours of work we have dedicated. When I return, everything will be very exciting for me.ā€

The return of Porzingis is coming next season, but we'll have to wait a lot less than until October to finally hear what went on in NYC from the unicorn's mouth.
