Steven Adams is one of the most promising big men currently in the NBA. Despite his young age of 22, Adams has shown glimpses of greatness on his game and Thunder fans are expecting a lot from him in the future. Being a part of the “big loser” team in free agency, having lost Kevin Durant with nothing in return, creates new expectations for the other stars of the team. Russell Westbrook extended his contract and will be fully in charge of the franchise now, but he needs all the support he can get if they want to compete in the playoffs.

Westbrook and Adams have shown that they can work together on the court to provide good results. But, Adams will have to grow, once again, taking on more responsibilities than ever in this new era for OKC.

Crazy enough, all of these expectations come for a guy who initially didn't even like basketball!

According to thewireless.co.nz, Adams spoke about the development of his relationship with basketball:

I didn't actually like the game at first… I mainly fell in love with the progress; just seeing a little bit of progress made me feel like I had a bit of purpose in my life, as cheesy as that sounds. Because I was in a bad spot and I just didn't feel like anything. So once I saw myself grow, I just understood that I could grow to be something I wanted to be. And it wasn't an NBA player; I just kept working and I just wanted to see myself grow every day.

Eventually though, he grew to love this game, and his passion on the court makes that obvious.

Concerning how his role might change with Kevin Durant gone, Adams also said:

It isn't up to me whether I'm going to say ‘yo, I'm going to do this’. It's the coach's job to put us in the best position to succeed, not only individually but as a team. So I'm just waiting for his word … [I might] shoot some threes.

Basketball might not be his first love, but Thunder fans can rest assured this guy will give his best on the court and keep on improving.
