Paul George and the Oklahoma City Thunder have forged an unlikely partnership this season. After being traded from the Pacers in July, there were some initial concerns if Russell Westbrook, George, and Carmelo Anthony would fit together on the court. Rightfully so, the Thunder began the season on a rocky start. However, now the Thunder have transitioned into one of the best teams in the league, even blowing out the last two NBA champions this season. Apparently, all good things must come to an end, especially since George expressed earlier last year that he was going to join the Lakers when he became an unrestricted free agent.
The Thunder are confident in their chances to sign George this year, but it might actually be impossible considering that the Thunder have spent hundreds of millions of dollars on Westbrook and Steven Adams alone. Signing George to a max contract will have severe implications for the Thunder, which will likely be an exorbitant luxury tax bill.
Still, NBA fans have remained optimistic in the Thunder's chances to retain George, starting a thread on Reddit to discuss some insane ways that the Thunder will have to do to keep George.

The Thunder are in a seriously peculiar situation. After taking on Anthony's large contract in the summer, the Thunder don't have a way to sign George to a max contract this year. GM Sam Presti has proved in the past that he will take the cheapest route to build a championship contender.
George will likely command max money this summer, and the Thunder might have to rethink their plans.
