Oklahoma City Thunder general manager Sam Presti gave some eye-opening insight into the outlook of this past season.
Known to be one of the most forthcoming front office executives, Presti acknowledged he was excited about the possibility of keeping Russell Westbrook, Paul George, and Steven Adams throughout the prime of their careers, according to Erik Horne of The Oklahoman.
“The opportunity to potentially have Westbrook, Paul George and Steven Adams, all three of those guys in their prime years, is extremely exciting for us,” said Presti.
Worthy to note is the fact that these three players were mentioned as the core of this team, obviously omitting another expensive asset in Carmelo Anthony, who was reportedly a player the team was looking to get rid of.
The team will owe Melo a near $28 million in the last year of his contract and it could prove nearly impossible to trade him or buy him out, due to the massive dollar amount he is owed and the poor market for his services.
His now public unwillingness to come off the bench has left a sour note for this team moving forward, which could create complications retaining George this summer, given that Adams and Westbrook have already secured long-term deals.
