Kevin Durant was blunt and forthcoming speaking about his decision to leave the Golden State Warriors to link up with Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan with the Brooklyn Nets. During an appearance on EBRO In The Morning on HOT 97, the two-time Finals MVP was asked of the difference between his departure from the Oklahoma City Thunder and the most recent one from the Warriors.

Durant noted he doesn't miss anything from OKC besides the times that were had with his teammates and the organization, once again describing his shock upon seeing the wild reaction from fans there. The former scoring champ was forced to shut down his own restaurant in the heart of OKC soon after he left, considering the reviews on Yelp were flooded with hate and criticism for his choice to change teams in the 2016 offseason:

“At first I didn't even know people cared that much, especially in Oklahoma City,” said Durant about his departure. “Once I felt that reaction I was like, ‘I must be a damn good basketball player' — that's what I thought. It was weird seeing people react to me moving and changing teams, but that's the nature of sports.”

Durant was quick to point out that it was different this offseason once he left the Bay Area for Brooklyn:

“Nah, I didn't really feel it too much,” said Durant. “I felt like some Warriors fans were a little disappointed that it ended like that and wished it could have went longer, but it wasn't that type of reaction.”

The circumstances were also dramatically different.

Oklahoma City felt poised to re-sign Durant after coming a game shy of making the NBA Finals. To see the team's best player leave to join the very team that caused the Thunder's defeat was more than a sheer disappointment.

In contrast, Warriors fans were conditioned for an entire year to feel the possibility of Durant changing teams, as rumors about a potential New York venture ran rampant throughout the 2018-19 season, culminating in what was largely seen as an unavoidable departure.
