The Orlando Magic are planning to redshirt rookie forward Chuma Okeke for the 2019-20 campaign so he can fully recover from a torn ACL, according to a report from Shams Charania of The Athletic.

As Charania notes in his report, this is an interesting move for the Magic. Okeke tore his ACL back in March, putting a premature end to his Sweet 16 run. Initially, there was some hope that he would be able to play after this season's All-Star break. Now, though, it seems Orlando is looking to play it safe with his rehabilitation.

Okeke, now 21 years of age, played two seasons of collegiate call at Auburn University. In his sophomore campaign, the former Mr. Basketball of Georgia racked up averages of 12.0 points on 49.6 percent shooting from the field (38.7 percent from beyond the arc), 6.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.2 blocks in 29.1 minutes per outing.

The Magic seem to like what they see in Okeke's game. At 6-foot-8, he can play a variety of positions. However, the team will need to have a bit of patience as he recovers.

The Magic finished the 2018-19 season with a 42-40 overall record, which earned the team a No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Unfortunately, though, Orlando was defeated by the Toronto Raptors in the opening round, 4-1.
