Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic has some high praises for Orlando Magic rookie Paolo Banchero, who went no. 1 overall in the 2022 NBA Draft.

After helping Slovenia beat Italy in their exhibition game on Saturday, the Mavs playmaker spoke about Banchero and shared his belief that the youngster will thrive in the NBA.

“I think he's an amazing player,” Doncic said, per Sports Illustrated. “He has a great head coach, I know him very well, so I know he's gonna get the opportunity to him to prove himself … I wish him all the luck.”

Paolo Banchero's top overall selection came as a surprise to some after the likes of Jabari Smith and Chet Holmgren dominated the talks as the top picks heading to the draft. It wasn't until the few days and hours leading to the rookie selection when it was revealed that the Magic were leaning on taking the Duke star.

Sure enough while there is a ton of pressure that goes to the first player picked in a draft class, Banchero has the talent to live up to expectations. As Luka Doncic said as well, he has a great coach in Jamahl Mosley who can help him unleash his full potential.

Mosley, who spent three seasons with Doncic as Mavs assistant before becoming the Magic head coach, also shared his confidence that Banchero will be a great fit for the franchise.

“He's going to blend and fit right in. It's about doing the work, and he's a worker, so that's the one thing that continues to stand out,” Mosley said.

Banchero certainly has a lot of work to do as he enters his first year with the team, but it is quite clear he has some big supporters around the league.
