New Orleans Pelicans big man DeMarcus Cousins has had a ridiculous seven-game start to the year from a statistical sense. He’s averaging 29.4 points, 13.6 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 2.1 blocks, while shooting 49 percent from the field and hitting 2.4 3-pointers per game. All of those would be a new career-high if the season ended today.
To put into perspective just how incredible Cousins’ season to date has been, though, consider that he’s actually averaging more in two stats than two other All-Stars, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, which he really shouldn’t have any business being at a similar level with, much less surpassing them in.

The fact that Boogie is contributing in so many facets of the game shouldn’t be surprising to anyone who saw him playing with the Sacramento Kings. He had to do so many things for that team to remain even the slightest bit competitive given all the subpar talent surrounding him. And save for Anthony Davis, he finds himself in a similar situation in New Orleans.
It’s certainly a remarkable feat for a player of Cousins’ size to be doing so much for his team, and doing some things even better than other stars. It remains to be seen how long he can keep producing at quite this high of a rate. But even if he does fall off a bit, the fact that he can even be on par with the likes of Durant and Irving in those stats is still very impressive.
