Hoping to put all the Ben Simmons drama behind them and make a deep playoff run this season, the Philadelphia 76ers are looking forward to a successful 2021-22 NBA campaign. With some roster changes still in the works and the team now making Joel Embiid the focal point of their franchise, there are still some big moves that need to be made by the Sixers.

Given their current standing with Simmons, and the team still having some needs to address prior to the start of the 2021-22 NBA season, there's no question that they'll shake things up at some point this season. Now that the Sixers are trying to get over the hump and bring a title back to Philly, let's discuss the two reasons why they won't win the 2022 NBA championship.

76ers Championship Issues

76ers won't be able to put together a strong enough trade package for Ben Simmons

Previously having spoken with multiple teams about trade offers involving Simmons this summer, the biggest takeaway from all this is that the Sixers have been demanding far too much in return. Even if they are able to pull the trigger on a decent trade for Simmons, the Sixers likely won't be able to get back an All-Star caliber player and the draft capital they desire in return for him.

This in-turn would alter their roster significantly while leaving them with less depth and talent than they possessed prior to making a trade. They may be able to pull off a solid deal for Simmons, but at this point that seems less likely to happen given the fact that he hasn't made things easy for the Sixers this offseason. As they continue to search for the right deal, things could get tricky for Philly moving forward.

Joel Embiid will have to carry a bigger load

Now that Philly has fully committed to making Embiid the face of their franchise, doing all they can to maximize his championship window has become their number one priority. However, with the cloud of uncertainty that remains with a Simmons trade, this may cause the Sixers to give up quality depth and create more work for Embiid throughout the season.

Especially after he already had a back injury derail his MVP season last year while the Sixers were fighting to maintain homecourt advantage in the playoffs. Even with savvy veterans talents like Mattisse Thybulle, Seth Curry, Danny Green, and Tobias Harris on the roster, Embiid will still have be their go-to guy down the stretch of big games and he'll have to expand his game while looking to lead the Sixers on another deep playoff run this season.

For these reasons, Embiid may wind up having to load manage a good amount due to an increase in his minutes and more of the playmaking and scoring load now being put on him on top of him becoming their new defensive anchor alongside Thybulle. So with all this in the fold for Philly, Embiid will more than likely be forced to take on a bigger load for the Sixers while they continue searching for a new superstar to pair him with.
