Miami Heat shooting guard Dwyane Wade chimed in on the Jimmy Butler saga, now a couple of weeks removed from his former teammate making the move to his new team, the Philadelphia 76ers, after an awry one-year-and-change stint with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Wade gave the outside perception of how it all went down, claiming the ongoing two-month melodrama wasn't the most ideal of situations for Butler's image.
“From afar, it was definitely not good from a media standpoint,” Dwyane Wade told K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune. “A lot of stuff started coming out. It’s never good when you let something like that drag on. I think he wanted everything to get resolved faster than it did. I’m glad that’s in the past and he’s in a good place. He’s a winner. You put him in place and a culture where he can do that, and I’m happy.
Despite only playing one season alongside Butler as a member of the Chicago Bulls, Wade claimed the trade was for the best interest of both parties, and now the two are thriving because of it.
“I know Jimmy. I know his heart. I know what kind of competitor he is. But I also know how tough he is,” said Wade. “Now you can see Minnesota and their young guys are getting back to their comfort zone.”
Butler has two game-winners to his name in seven games with the 76ers, while the Butler-less Wolves have won five of their last seven games.
Seems like all is well at both ends after a turbulent two months of back-and-forth.
