Philadelphia 76ers small forward Tobias Harris “wasn’t surprised” Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving signed with the Brooklyn Nets in free agency.

Irving and Durant chose the Nets over the New York Knicks, who had cap space to sign two superstars as well.

“I wasn’t surprised,” Harris said, via Marc Berman of the New York Post. “You heard a lot of rumblings before about it. I didn’t know for 100%, but if I had to make my guess, I would’ve said Kyrie and Kevin were going to the Nets. Kind of all season long you heard different rumblings. That would’ve been my educated guess.”

The Nets may have pivoted to Tobias Harris if they didn't land both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. There were rumblings Harris was considering signing with Brooklyn.

Instead, Harris signed the richest deal in Sixers franchise history by agreeing to a five-year, $180 million contract with Philadelphia.

The Nets won't be title contenders in 2019-20, as Durant is expected to miss the entire season recovering from his Achilles tear. Brooklyn will likely be a top-four team in the East with Irving leading the way.

Harris and the Sixers could win the East next season since Kawhi Leonard is in the Western Conference now. Philly lost to Leonard and the Toronto Raptors in the second round of the 2019 playoffs in seven games. The Atlantic Division should be fun with the new-look Sixers, Nets and Boston Celtics battling it out.
