The Philadelphia 76ers turned a lot of heads during last summer's free agency, when they decided to extend a very lucrative offer to J.J. Redick. With a one year, $23 million deal on the table, the veteran shooting guard did not waste time in agreeing to it, taking his talents to Philly and “trusting the process.”

Now that the regular season is almost over, the 33-year-old Duke product made it known recently that he prefers to stay with the team longer. He also added, via Keith Pompey of the Philly Inquirer, that it's been a joy for him to represent the Sixers and play for head coach Brett Brown, and that he is hopeful to sign a long-term deal with them this coming summer.

Redick is enjoying one of his best seasons as a pro this year, with career-high averages of 16.7 points and 2.6 rebounds, to go along with 3.2 assists and 40.1 percent shooting from beyond the arc. More importantly, he has proven that he is a good fit with the 76ers, serving as a knockdown shooter, opening the lanes for his younger teammates to attack the basket, as well as a veteran locker room leader for them.

It's anyone's guess at this point if the Sixers will once again give him a huge contract extension or not, but one thing that's certain is that the team's fans can consider his comments as good news for their team, as J.J. Redick clearly wants to stay and continue playing for the storied franchise.

Making the playoffs could also make it easier for their front office to make a decision on his future, as he can prove his worth further, and show them that he can be relied upon heavily when there's more at stake.

The Sixers are currently in sixth place in the East with 20 games left, and if everything goes according to plan, they could make a postseason appearance for the first time in six years.
