The Philadelphia 76ers made a major move at the trade deadline to acquire James Harden to pair with MVP favorite Joel Embiid. Their early days together looked fantastic, but the Sixers have faltered slightly as of late. Nevertheless, this team still has title aspirations as they finally aim to get over that playoff hump.
Speaking to The Athletic, Embiid got brutally honest on Philly's chances of winning it all this season:
Article Continues BelowWe have a chance. But we’ve all got to play at the highest level possible. I’ve got to be as dominant as ever. Obviously (Harden) has to be extremely good too, whether it’s scoring the ball or setting up guys. Everybody else has got to come in together and believe in it and really buy-in. Tyrese (Maxey) has been great. Tobias (Harris) has been great. Matisse (Thybulle) has been great. Georges (Niang) and guys coming off the bench, they’ve been great.
The Sixers are currently just a half-game back of the Celtics for top spot in the East, but they've lacked consistency at times. While Embiid and Harden typically play at a high level, the supporting cast doesn't always bring it every night. As Embiid said, the first unit and second unit must show up and play their absolute best all the time.
Sunday was a good test for Philadelphia but it proved they still have a ways to go, losing 114-104 to the high-flying Phoenix Suns. There are eight games left until the playoffs, therefore the Sixers need to step it up and keep rolling. Winning a championship is the number one goal for Embiid and Harden. Let's hope this is the year.
