Philadelphia 76ers shooting guard Markelle Fultz would prefer a fresh start with a new team, according to a report from The Athletic.

The former No. 1 overall pick has also been playing with an apparent injury in his right wrist area that has adversely affected his ability to shoot. Fultz's shoulder ailment is still apparent as well.

In addition to a previously diagnosed right shoulder injury that continues to impact him, Fultz has been playing with an apparent injury in his right wrist area that has adversely affected his ability to shoot, league sources told The Athletic. The potential issue has led to periodic difficulties holding on to the ball during his shot. Specialists have been working with Fultz to figure out how they can strengthen the wrist area to remedy the injury.

Sources with knowledge of Fultz’s thinking have also told The Athletic that the player would prefer a fresh start with a new team.

Markelle Fultz is scheduled to visit a shoulder specialist in New York within the next week and won’t participate in full practices or games until the specialist has had the opportunity to evaluate him.

In 19 games this season, Fultz is averaging 8.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists while shooting 41.9 percent from the field, 28.6 percent from beyond the arc and 56.8 percent from the free-throw line.
