Following his impressive performance this year, the Philadelphia 76ers have made the easy decision of picking up the option on Robert Covington for next season.
Owning a team-friendly $1.57 million deal, it was considered a very straightforward decision to make for the team.

The 26-year-old Tennessee State product had his best season as a pro this year with averages of 12.9 points, and career-highs of 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game. His steals were fourth in the league among all small forwards, and he has emerged as a lockdown defender at his position.
Covington is coming off a knee injury that forced him to miss the last month of the season and the Sixers are hoping he can recover completely from it this summer to play at a high level once again. One thing they have to work on with him though is his efficiency from the field as he now has three consecutive campaigns where he shot the ball below 40 percent.
Picking up his option will allow the 76ers to extend a bigger offer to him next summer, once he becomes a free agent. With the improvement he's had over the past years, he is expected to receive a lot of interest from around the league, and the team's ability to pay him more will be a huge boost for their chances of re-signing him moving forward.
