It's a known fact that Sixers star Ben Simmons has struggled with accuracy from deep since entering the NBA. However, on Tuesday, the former No. 1 overall pick knocked down his first three-pointer — albeit in an exhibition game against the Guangzhou Long-Lions. In light of this breakthrough, the folks at NBA 2K decided to have a bit of fun at his expense.
Simmons brought the ball past the timeline for one final possession before the half. The Sixers were leading by a wide margin, and the crowd inside the Wells Fargo Center was clamoring for a three-point attempt from their star. His defender gave up too much open space, which allowed a wide-open look.
The shot went in, sending the crowd into a frenzy:

“The time went down,” Simmons said via Slam. “I had the ball. So I had to take a shot.”
The Sixers went on to defeat the Lions convincingly, 144-86. Simmons logged 21 minutes, scoring 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field (1-of-1 from beyond the arc), eight rebounds, seven assists, one block, and one steal. He also finished with an incredible plus/minus rating of +40.
The Sixers will be back for more preseason action on Friday night when they'll serve as hosts to the Charlotte Hornets. Tip-off inside Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum (Winston-Salem, NC) is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
