Phoenix Suns star Chris Paul continues to climb the playoffs leaderboard. On Monday in Game 1 of their series against the Dallas Mavericks, he made another record that should get Mavs head coach Jason Kidd sweating.

The Point God moved up to no. 5 all time on the most assists in the playoffs, surpassing San Antonio Spurs legend Tony Parker. Paul had three assists in the first half of the contest, which was enough to break TP's 1,443 dimes.

It's the person next on the list that makes it interesting, however. Kidd is no. 4 with with 1,263 assists in his playoff career. Should CP3 and the Suns be able to beat the Mavs and go deeper into the postseason, it's not hard to see him topple the Dallas tactician from his spot.

Sure enough, Chris Paul won't care that much about that record. After all, he is searching for something that he has never gotten in his 17-year career: an NBA championship.

The Suns reached the NBA Finals last year but failed to get the job done against a dominant Milwaukee Bucks side led by Giannis Antetokounmpo. This time, Phoenix hopes to turn things around and win that chip they have been raring to get.

As for Jason Kidd and the Mavs, stopping Paul from breaking their coach's record could be just added motivation to stop the Suns early.
