Since being drafted with the fourth overall pick in 2005, Chris Paul has established himself as one of the NBA’s best point guards. On Sunday, he reached another milestone in his 16th season by becoming just the sixth player to have 10,000 career assists in the Phoenix Suns’ 111-94 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
Paul entered the 10,000 assists club with a lob to Deandre Ayton in the third quarter of the game against the Lakers, joining John Stockton, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Mark Jackson and Magic Johnson. Paul finished with a triple-double of 11 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists in the team’s 28th victory of the season.

Paul’s backcourt partner and fellow All-Star Devin Booker couldn’t be happier for him and feels confident that the Point God can keep rising up the league’s all-time assists leaders.

With 10,004 assists to his name, Chris Paul already ranks sixth all-time in assists, with Magic Johnson’s 10,141 dimes placing fifth. With Paul still playing at a high level for the Suns this season, it wouldn’t be surprising for Booker’s prediction to come true.
After all, the 11-time All-Star is just 137 assists behind Johnson and has put up at least 450 assists per season throughout his career. The second half of the season has only started, so CP3 has several chances to surpass Magic.
Moreover, with Booker and his Suns teammates playing well and making their shots, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Paul move up the all-time assists leaders sooner rather than later.
