New Orleans Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry might have committed the biggest blunder of the season on Saturday night. With the game knotted at 136 following a game-tying triple by Phoenix Suns forward Josh Jackson, Gentry called for a timeout. The problem was he didn't have any left.

Following the game, several players from the Suns still couldn't believe what transpired from the crazy finish in New Orleans. Devin Booker told reporters that the Suns entered the locker room after the game and looked around unsure of what just happened. But hey, they'll take the 138-136 win.

Kidding aside, this indeed has to be one of the weirdest endings of an NBA game ever. While the magnitude isn't as huge as those of Chris Webber's infamous timeout call at the 1993 NCAA national championship game, or J.R. Smith not knowing they had the lead in last year's NBA Finals, this play could safely be put in the same breath as those two in terms of how bone-headed they were.

This is some next level tanking if this was all part of Gentry's plan. But he did admit his mistake after the game. Nonetheless, the loss gave New Orleans a better chance at acquiring a higher draft pick in the draft lottery in May.

The Suns, on the other hand, have been one of the more exciting young teams in the league over the past few weeks. They have won six of their last ten games, including two impressive victories against the Milwaukee Bucks and the Golden State Warriors.

A couple of morale victories and moments like this one could serve to build this young squad's chemistry heading into next season.
