After a string of injuries, Phoenix Suns veteran center Tyson Chandler might sit out the rest of the 2017-18 NBA season.

As reported by Kellan Olson of EmpireOfTheSuns, Suns general manager Ryan McDonough said:

Chandler has been in and out of games due to neck and shoulder injuries. Over the last 17 games of the Suns, Chandler has only played in five of them and has missed the previous four. As reported by the RotoWire Staff on CBSSports, Suns head coach Jay Triano said:

“The toll of the neck thing and the shoulder thing, lots of little things bothering him; it's just going to be day-by-day.”

In place of Chandler, 24-year-old Alex Len is expected to take his spot in the starting five. Dragan Bender and Marquese Chriss, meanwhile, have benefitted more playing time as back-up to Len.

“Tyson’s a very selfless guy,” McDonough said. “He really expressed an interest to us in giving Alex Len an opportunity to play and Alan Williams is playing [Wednesday night] in northern Arizona with the NAZ Suns in Prescott Valley.”

Chandler, who was crowned Defensive Player of the Year in 2012, is now in his 17th season in the NBA. At 35-years-old, his body has been subject to the wear and tear demanded of an NBA player. His main role for the Suns over the past three seasons has mainly been to lend his veteran voice and experience to young players like Devin Booker. Currently, he's logging in 6.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game in 25 minutes of action.
