Phoenix was playing without star shooting guard Devin Booker and coming from rumors that the team could potentially be relocated to Seattle or Las Vegas in the wake of a potential denial of funding from the city council, which would turn down $150 million in renovation money for the arena.

Barkley, who played four years with the Suns at the center of his NBA career, made a bold move to pick them, as they had lost 10 straight games and 13 of their last 14 outings before taking on the streaking Mavs, eventually spoiling Dirk Nowitzki's return to the court and his record-breaking 21st season with the same organization.

Not bad, Chuck. Not bad at all.
