It was only a matter of time before Phoenix Suns rookie Deandre Ayton got to show what he’s got even if it’s during a generally meaningless Summer League game. That time came this Friday when the Suns made their Summer League debut against the Dallas Mavericks, who, we are sorry to say, did not have Luka Doncic on their lineup, taking away some sparkle from the game.
Still, Ayton did well in his first test as an NBA player, treating the game like some ordinary Pac-12 game. This year’s top pick in the draft scored 10 points and hauled down eight rebounds in 22 minutes of action.
Deandre Ayton announced his presence very early in the game by doing Deandre Ayton stuff, catching a pass midair from Shaquille Harrison and throwing it down for an alley-oop slam that could make Amare Stoudemire proud.

On top of his numbers and that highlight, Ayton also experienced his first NBA win, as the Suns took down Dallas to the tune of a 92-85 score.
Deandre Ayton can continue to showcase his talents in an intriguing matchup with the Sacramento Kings this Saturday. The game will feature a matchup between former high school teammates and the top two picks in last month’s NBA Draft in Ayton and Kings rookie Marvin Bagley III.
