The Sacramento Kings are one of the more interesting teams in basketball because they certainly have the talent to compete in the Western Conference but have just failed to do so the past few years. They are currently the 12th seed in the Western Conference and sit at 16-26.

When looking at the Kings roster, it doesn't make much sense why this team struggles. They have a star player in De'Aaron Fox, a good player in Buddy Hield, a veteran in Harrison Barnes, Richaun Holmes, young Davion Mitchell, and Tyrese Haliburton. This team is essentially everything that an NBA team would look for on a roster but they just haven't panned out.

Many of the reasons why this team has not panned out could be put on their age and just not having much experience in this league. The Kings do have to realize that they are sitting in a good position with a lot of talent. They need to make sure that they avoid some serious mistakes that they could make if they do go into a rebuild process.

Let's take a look at three areas the Kings must avoid in order for them to become the team that many expected them to be.

Kings Must Avoids 2022

3. Retool instead of rebuild

There have been many questions about this Sacramento Kings team because they certainly haven't been bad, but have not played to what anybody was expecting. Many of that could be because they are still a very young team and also have a head coach who just started coaching during the middle of the season. Clearly, Luke Walton was not the answer for this team and they did a great job by going out and getting somebody, who was Alvin Gentry.

The question about this team is if they are going to go into a deeper rebuild mode and decide to trade some of their big-name players such as Buddy Hield and De'Aaron Fox. It would not make sense for this team to do that because they have a lot of talent on this roster and if they can just go out and get a few more guys, they will be a team that nobody in the Western Conference is going to want to play.

The Kings need to seriously think about not rebuilding their organization and instead going out and maybe mixing a few things up. There's too much talent on their roster for them to decide to just go out and get rid of everybody so they're going to need to think about just bringing in some more guys and trying to make this thing work with the young players that they do have.

2. Trade Bagley for a more experienced center

The only player that the Kings should really be thinking about getting rid of who is a younger age is Marvin Bagley. This kid has not been bad by any means but there are many experienced centers out there who could be getting traded this deadline. On the season, he's only averaging eight points per game and 6.8 rebounds. With him only playing 21 minutes a night this is definitely a good stat line. The Kings do have to realize that if they're going to want to have any success during the season and in the future, he might not be the immediate answer

Myles Turner is going to obviously be moved this season according to the Indiana Pacers so it might be in the Kings best interest to decide to pick up the phone and see if they will take somebody like Marvin Bagley because he could help speed up their rebuild process due to him being a good player. He would also be able to play the minutes that he might deserve in Indiana.

1. Have to keep Tyrese Haliburton and De'Aaron Fox

There have been many rumors that Tyrese Haliburton or De'Aaron Fox was going to be traded to the Philadelphia 76ers for Ben Simmons. This would be the worst thing that the Kings could decide to do because both of these players are better than Simmons. De'Aaron Fox is an elite scorer and Tyrese Haliburton is still a very young player who can defend at a high level and also run an offense.

Trading either of these guys for Simmons is not going to be the answer that they are going to expect and it's not going to turn their organization around. The Kings need to be very selective about who they do decide to trade and if they ever do for some more reason decide to trade Haliburton or Fox, they need to make sure that they are going to get the player that they deserve when they trade them.
