DeMarcus Cousins may benefit more than any other player by being a part of Team USA basketball this summer in Rio.
He wants to make sure he takes advantage of the opportunity.
Cousins was asked about the experience so far and had this to say, via CowbellKingdom.com:
“I’m ready to share my experiences with my teammates and get the season kicked off on the right foot,” said Cousins. “It’s about bringing up the small detailed things that go under the radar. In Sacramento I have a much bigger responsibly, those smaller things I can’t really focus on that much and then here I realize that those things are just as important.”
That's exactly what Kings fans want to hear.
Article Continues BelowCousins hasn't exactly been the model for leadership in his six seasons in Sacramento. He hasn't gotten along with every coach, he's shown signs of still being very immature, and the team hasn't won much. Still though, he continues to improve as his numbers have risen across the board basically every year.
Cousins isn't the only problem in Sacramento, but he could definitely be doing better to right the ship. Comments like the ones above and the opportunity to play for Team USA may push him in the right direction.
One player can influence a lot in the NBA, especially when that player is as talented as Boogie. A good showing in the Olympics may go a long way, not only toward the U.S. winning gold, but the Kings getting their act together as a franchise.
