Sacramento Kings star De'Aaron Fox was having a career year before getting diagnosed with COVID-19 in latter April. The lowly Kings have struggled all year but surprisingly, they've gone 6-3 since Fox went on the shelf.
Nevertheless, the former Kentucky star has been battling the virus with all of his might as he tries to get back on the court before the season ends. Fox recently spoke out on what it's been like to have COVID-19, per SI's Howard Beck:
“First, Fox has to get out of the league’s health and safety protocols. The coronavirus “hit me like a truck,” he said, with headaches, body aches, chills and dehydration. It also hit his fiancé, former Cal point guard Recee Caldwell, though both are fine now.”
Fox hasn't taken the floor for the Kings since April 21st, missing a total of nine games. He's still in the league's health and safety protocols and with just four contests left, it's unknown if the star guard will even suit up again.
Fox isn't the first notable player to be hit hard by COVID-19, either. Celtics star Jayson Tatum was very sick earlier in the season and even had some trouble breathing once he got back on the court. Raptors guard Fred VanVleet also felt the severe effects of the virus back in March.
With the Kings not even close to a Play-In spot, there isn't really any reason to rush Fox back. But after putting up career-highs of 25.2 points and 7.2 assists per night, Sacramento has a clear building block for the future as they look to climb their way out of the Western Conference gutter in the coming years.
