With the Sacramento Kings entering the hiatus just three-and-a-half games outside the playoff picture in the West, they have been selected as one of the teams that will be participating in the bubble in Florida. According to reports, we might be looking at a new-look Kings side once the season restarts
Jason Jones of The Athletic reports that head coach Luke Walton is likely to employ a lot of small-ball moving forward, which means that some major changes are to be expected in the starting five:
The Kings will likely go smaller in their starting lineup with Richaun Holmes at center and Harrison Barnes playing power forward. In that scenario, Marvin Bagley III — the second overall pick in the 2018 draft — would come off the bench. Coach Luke Walton could also employ some three-guard looks in Orlando with De’Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield and Bogdan Bogdanovic on the court at the same time.
As reported above, Bagley appears to be the biggest victim of this shift. Then again, it's not as if he has featured heavily for e Kings this season. The 21-year-old has been out since January with a foot injury, and his current timetable still remains uncertain. Bagley has played in just 20 games this season, and is averaging 14.2 points (on 46.7 percent shooting) and 7.5 rebounds in 25.7 minutes of action.
Sacramento is not expected to contend this season, but the fact that they have an opportunity to fight for a spot in the playoffs is certainly something this young team will take advantage of.
