Following the outrage over the highly-controversial shooting of 22-year-old Stephon Clark by Sacramento police last Sunday night, many people gathered outside of Golden 1 Center on Thursday night to peacefully protest the horrific tragedy as the Sacramento Kings took on the Atlanta Hawks.
In a video posted by Warriors beat reporter Mark Medina of the Mercury News, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr opened up about it and praised the way Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé and the NBA addressed the situation.
“It was a bizarre scene,” coach Kerr said before Friday night's game against the Hawks. “More than anything, very very sad. The story is just awful. I was very proud of the way the Kings handled it, the way the NBA handled it. I thought they did everything they could, and I thought Vivek’s words afterward were beautiful. The main sentiment, though, is just horror and sadness for the family involved, and not much else to say.”
Ranadivé gathered with players and members of the Kings organization at center court on Thursday night and made a very eloquently-stated speech to the people inside Golden 1 Center.

“We stand here before you, old, young, black, white, brown, and we are all united in our commitment,” Ranadivé said, which was met with cheers and applause by the crowd. “We recognize that it’s not just business as usual, and we are going to work really hard to bring everybody together to make the world a better place, starting with our own community, and we’re going to work really hard to prevent this kind of tragedy from happening again.”
According to a tweet by Warriors beat reporter Anthony Slater of The Athletic, coach Kerr said that he plans to take part in Oakland's version of the March For Our Lives protests on Saturday.
The heavily-injured Warriors, who were able to beat the Hawks 106-94 on Friday night at Oracle Arena, will host the Utah Jazz on Sunday night in a nationally-televised contest.
