After seeing veteran point guard Tony Parker and multi-tooled swingman Kyle Anderson sign with other teams during this free agency period, the San Antonio Spurs made sure one of their dependable assets from last season will not be going somewhere else. According to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports, the Spurs have re-signed power forward Davis Bertans to a two-year deal, which will earn the Latvian big man a total of $14.5 million.

There might be some confusion with regards to the true nature of Bertans’ new pact with the Spurs, as it was earlier reported by Sportando that the San Antonio has already inked the power forward to a four-year deal worth $20 million. Either way, Bertans does seem to be remaining with the Spurs for the foreseeable future.

With Anderson gone and the unsteady situation of Kawhi Leonard in San Antonio, Davis Bertans could enjoy a bigger role for the Spurs, beginning in the 2018-19 campaign. His main role will still likely be to provide serviceable minutes on the floor while either Pau Gasol and LaMarcus Aldridge get a breather on the bench.

Last season, Bertans put up only 5.9 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 14.1 minutes in 77 games with 10 starts. He also shot 44.0 percent from the field and 37.3 percent from behind the arc.

Bertans, who spent plying his trade in Europe before coming over to the United States, has not earned more than $1.4 million in a season before in his NBA career.
