The San Antonio Spurs' loss on Monday to the Memphis Grizzlies stung, as the Spurs were close to pulling off an upset over the Western Conference's surprise title contender. They were unable to overcome late-game heroics from Ja Morant on his franchise-record-breaking night.

For Dejounte Murray, the pain from that loss will sting even longer. The Spurs' All-Star was ejected following an incident with a referee in the fourth quarter. The NBA announced that Murray would be hit with a $20,000 fine as a result.

Murray threw a somewhat hard pass at a referee's legs during a stoppage of play. The pass was intentionally low and hard, though it seemed like the Spurs point guard was simply giving them the ball in a frustrated manner. Nonetheless, the hard pass was earned him an ejection near the end of the game, which resulted in the Spurs' 38th loss of the season.

Murray was asked out the incident after a San Antonio practice but pleaded the fifth, citing the fines that can come from criticizing officials.

Aside from this incident, Murray has been enjoying a very strong season with the Spurs. The first-time All-Star is averaging 20.1 points, 9.4 assists, 8.3 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game and is second in the league in triple-doubles, trailing only reigning MVP Nikola Jokic.
